Meet Marion Ruth, FNP-C
Sunshine Community Health Center is proud to welcome Marion Ruth, FNP-C to our team of providers.
Marion’s path to primary care started in Tucson, Arizona, where she spent over a decade working as a labor and delivery nurse. Supporting mothers and families through such meaningful experiences gave her a strong foundation in compassionate, patient-centered care. Inspired to expand her role in health care, Marion became a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)—a type of advanced practice nurse who is trained to provide a wide range of health services across the lifespan. FNPs can diagnose and treat illness, prescribe medications, order and interpret tests, and provide preventive and wellness care. In many communities, they serve as primary care providers, ensuring patients have access to the care they need close to home.
Marion’s first role as an FNP was with the U.S. Public Health Service in a Federal Prison. From there, she continued her career in primary care at Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Indian Health Service (IHS) facilities across California and Alaska. These experiences deepened her commitment to community health and to serving diverse populations.
When asked why she chose Sunshine CHC, Marion shared that she and her partner are working toward settling on their land near Larson Lake. But more than that, she feels drawn to the mission and “vibe” of an FQHC: “I’ve always preferred the feel of a community health center over private practice,” she explains.
Her role at Sunshine CHC directly reflects the organization’s mission statement:
“Community-Driven HealthCare, Rooted in the Strength and Resilience of Rural Alaska.”
By providing primary care services, Marion is helping fulfill this mission—delivering high-quality, respectful, and compassionate health care in partnership with the Sunshine team and the patients we serve.
Outside of work, Marion describes herself as an existentialist at heart: “I choose to give meaning to my life by helping others, and health care allows me to do that while still paying rent,” she says with a smile. Her happy place is outdoors, hiking the ridgelines of the Chugach mountains with her magnificent Great Pyrenees by her side.
We are excited to have Marion join our Sunshine family and look forward to the care, expertise, and humanity she brings to our community.
