Stretch Your PFD and Lighten Your Load

Every fall, Alaskans look forward to the arrival of the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD). For many, it’s a chance to plan a big purchase, take a trip, or cover essentials for the coming winter. But this year, we encourage you to think about another powerful way to use your PFD: catching up on health care bills.

Debt and Health Go Hand in Hand

Having bills pile up doesn’t just weigh on your wallet — it weighs on your mind and body, too. Financial stress can cause anxiety, disrupt sleep, and even make physical health problems worse. When you’re worried about debt, it can be harder to focus on taking care of yourself or your family.

That’s why Sunshine Community Health Center is offering a PFD Incentive Program. From October 1 through November 30, any payment you make toward bills accrued before September 30 will be matched up to 40%. It’s a chance to stretch your PFD further, reduce your balance, and lift a little weight off your shoulders.

At Sunshine, we don’t want cost to keep you from getting the care you need. Our Patient Advocates are here to help you explore options that can ease the financial burden and prevent debt from building up in the first place. Programs they can connect you with include:

• Sliding Fee Scale Programs – Based on your income and family size, you may qualify for reduced costs on medical, dental, or behavioral health services.

• Heating Assistance – Winters in Alaska are tough, but you don’t have to face them alone. We can help connect you to programs that keep your home warm and safe.

• Insurance Navigation – Whether you’re renewing coverage or exploring new options, our advocates can guide you through the process and make sure you’re not paying more than you need to.

Your health is too important to put off. By taking advantage of the PFD Incentive Program and working with our Patient Advocates, you can reduce stress, avoid future debt, and focus on what matters most: your well-being.

👉 Make your PFD go further this year. Pay your bill (accrued before September 30) between October 1 – November 30 and Sunshine will match up to 40% of your payment.
